As the Blue Dragon, Eshaedra, raised up above them the Hellblazers were faced with a dilemma — fight, flight, or try and talk their way out of it? The dragon cast its fearful presence and Littlecrow and all of the surviving inn patrons fled, yet the rest of the Hellblazers stood their ground due in large part to Arianna blostering the party’s resolve. Akkamas then tried to reason with the elder dragon, emploring that she should not be troubled by the majority not wearing the Lightning Bearer rings. Eshaedra agreed to the warlock’s argument, but took a recompense for the refusal — she ate Wilbough.

WaggonsAs more negotiations continued, Braxton pleaded his case as well and Eshaedra again agreed, but with her trademark ‘pound of flesh’, and dealt a savage blow to the paladin. Kelwyn stepped forward and begged mercy and devotion and the dragon stood down, allowing them to raise the paladin.

The party then drew attention to Jarlaxle and his role in Ocasta’s possession of the Hand of Vecna, the artifact Eshaedra so desperately wanted to recover. Despite Akkamas‘ strong accusations against the drow, Jarlaxle‘s proclamation of fealty was accepted and he was granted a Lightning Bearer ring, the same one previously worn by Wilbough. The dragon then transformed into human form and declared she would be joining the Hellblazers, at least for the rest of their stay in Skullport.

Meanwhile, Jone, Butcher Moore, and Jace ibn Alhazared discovered they were magically trapped, along with a dozen other mages, in the Spelltower. As the earth began to shake, the three fled upstairs, encountering Lord Daedron Farkus and four mercenaries. Farkus was there to escort them to Ocasta.

Outside, the Death Knight became distracted by the dragon and Jone used the opportunity to pull out his magic bottle that sucked two of the mercenaries inside. Quickly sealing themselves back inside the Spelltower, Jace killed one of the two remaining mercenaries while Butcher captured the other. After a quick interrogation they learned that the mercs were part of the Xanathar Guild and that Ocasta was in The One Eye Inn parleying with Xanathar himself.

Taking note of Lord Daedron Farkus outside of the ruins of Numb Skull Inn, the Hellblazers sprung into action, battling the dangerous foe, and taking serious damage, but giving as good as they got. Jone joined up with his comrades as they continue to press the Death Knight with everything they had, as Abraxas‘ Simulacrum, Archon, fell in the combat. It was touch and go, but the fight was ended by Eshaedra, who had returned to dragon form to deliver the killing blow.
ocastaHowever, just as they were prepared to celebrate their hard fought victory, Ocasta appeared several yards away, with Xanathar behind her. The Mother of Inventions was bearing the Hand of Vecna. She pointed at Eshaedra and commanded her to die, and the dragon keeled over, succumbing to the powerful eldritch sorceries.
Abraxas, seeing an opportunity to end this once and for all, teleported to Ocasta‘s side and broke the Staff of Abraxas over his knee, killing Xanathar and Jarlaxle in the process, leaving Ocasta hovering near death, and having himself hurtled through time and space into the very pits of Hell.
Ocasta raised up Eshaedra from the dead, who then killed Arianna with her lightning breath, and staggered away. Tim quickly conjured up a magical horse to cross the distance while the rest of the Hellblazers followed.
vecnaThe elf ranger came upon Ocasta in a side room, eyes wide in madness, cackling like a lunatic… the Hand of Vecna severed from her body.
Tracking the Hand, which had crawled away of its own accord, Tim ‘whispered’ to Akkamas that the Hand was coming his way. The warlock approached the ghastly appendage, grappling it with his Mage Hand.
But then, the Hand of Vecna began to convulse and from the rotted, severed stump a body began to grow. The Hellblazers were stunned to see not just the Hand of Vecna in Akkamas‘ grasp, but Vecna himself, in all his horrible glory…

And thus another chapter in the Hellblazers’ adventures came to a close… Vecna, the Whispered One, alive again? And the Hellblazers less than 10th level? Uh-oh. How in the world are they going to navigate this state of affairs? We’ll find out next Wednesday as we’re playing a day early due to St. Valentine’s Day.
