The Hellblazers decide to move on Xoblob‘s tent. With Furlong, Xoblob’s 13th favorite nephew in tow, they make their way through the crowd.
Kelwyn is reunited with an old flame, Du’ra, who is on the trail of the Hand of Vecna in the guise of a horse. She and her companions agree to join the druid on his quest to deal for the Stone of Golorr with the notorious gnome merchant.
Tim and Toman pass through the Gladiator tent, hoping it is a shortcut to Xoblob, but the barbarian slips into a rage upon seeing the combatants, both from rival tribes. One of them owed him money and the other had defiled his sister. A fight ensued. Tim kept an eye on the situation, but then spied Elspeth in the crowd. She slipped away once she realized she’d been spotted.
While most of the party had gathered at Xoblob‘s, Braxton, bringing up the rear, met up with Elspeth exiting the tent, but he failed to see past her disguise as an old woman. She persuaded him to help her across the street and to another tent, the insides of which were opulent. The paladin then rejoined the others.
Entering Xoblob‘s extradimensional quarters, they discovered a comforting pub and Xoblob himself, a curious and quick-witted gnome. Xoblob revealed that he was in possession of the Stone of Golorr, much coveted because it is able to reveal the location of the lost Dragons stolen by the former Unmasked Lord of Waterdeep.
He offers to sell it to them for 300,000 gold, or to work with them, allowing one of the Hellblazers to attune to the Stone and they split the treasure equally once recovered.
Kelwyn telepathically messages the party, calling Tim and Jone to the tent. He then reached out to Wilbough, learning that the diminutive thief has attempted to steal the Stone and was now sitting in a cell, somewhere in Xoblob‘s Magical Manse.
The party, cautiously and suspiciously, agrees to Xoblob‘s partnership and Abraxas offers to be the one to attune to the Stone, suspecting a higher intelligence or wisdom would be required to not be subjected to memory loss.
As the party marched off to the Stone‘s location, Jone snuck off down a separate secret passage in hopes of finding Wilbough. Tim used Mage Hand to sneak into the tent and followed after Jone. Jone, however, turned a corner, and was ‘stunned’ by a magical mirror trap. Tim came to Jone‘s aid, but senses danger all around.
Meanwhile, Abraxas, Akkamas, Braxton, Du’ra, and Kelwyn make their way down the secret hall behind Xoblob‘s bar, the gnome following. They turn a corner and come to a balcony overlooking a gladiator pit where a giant serpent lies coiled and ready to strike.
Xoblob speaks, angry that they were trying to double-cross him. He was aware that Jone had slipped away from the party and was now sneaking about his magical lair. The Hellblazers spin about to discover Xoblob has shed his gnome disguise, now appearing in his true form — that of a frightful Beholder.
And thus another chapter in the Hellblazers’ adventures came to a close…
