In the long list of those who have influenced me greatly, Frank Frazetta falls just behind Robert E. Howard at the very top of the heap. Fitting since the two are so intricately linked. Whereas Howard wrote with blood and fire dripping from his Underwood No. 5, Frank Frazetta opened a vein and painted with the very essence of his being, rendering that visceral, primeval spirit majestically.
Beautiful. Sensual. Deadly. Frank Frazetta transcended the genre, capturing on canvas the power, mystery, and grandeur of the gods themselves, like Prometheus bringing down fire from Mt. Olympus.
Today, Frazetta would have turned 90 years old and we salute his memory and cherish the legacy he left behind.
